As always, landscape gardening in Windsor offers plenty of challenges. Limited parking means it’s about a 10 minute walk from the house you are working at, to the closest parking space. Then there’s the issue of deliveries. Windsor is known for having narrow roads that are easily blocked. Then there’s nowhere to put the materials when they are dropped off! We also have to plan for the fact that for most projects, all the materials have to be carried through the house because there is no rear access!
Anyway, enough complaining. I was recently asked to renovate a back garden for a client who had a baby. They wanted to make the space more child friendly for when the baby started to get about a bit more.
As you can see from the picture, it was a bit of an overgrown mess:
The first port of call was to clear all the rubbish out and cut back everything. With all the borders tidied up we were able to repair all the edging. We then built a new summerhouse with storage compartment at the back of the garden. At the back door we laid a rectangular deck with plenty of space to set out a table and chairs and built a log store to one side.
Finally, a blinding layer of sand was applied to the block paving/patio area and artificial turf was cut to size and laid to a reasonably fiddly shape!
The result is a low maintenance, very smart, child friendly garden.
We were also asked to do the front garden which had a section of old fashioned black and white chequerboard tiling, with a bike shed submerged into the ground.
We set about dismantling the frame and filling in the enormous hole, compacting and then sourcing and laying matching tiles to give the front yard a smart new look.
